• Uniform Code for Marketing Practices in Medical Devices (UCMPMD) 2024: This code was introduced by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) on September 6, 2024. Its purpose is to establish ethical guidelines for the marketing of medical devices in India, aiming to reduce unethical practices and promote transparency, integrity, and accountability within the industry. The code is self-regulatory and requires medical device associations to ensure their members’ strict adherence and to form Ethics Committees for Marketing Practices in Medical Devices (ECMPMD). The CEO of each medical device company is responsible for ensuring compliance.

• Clause 14.1 of the UCMPMD 2024: This clause empowers the Department of Pharmaceuticals to mandate disclosures from medical device companies. These disclosures pertain to the distribution of evaluation samples and expenses incurred on continuing medical education (CME) and continuing professional development (CPD).
  

• Clause 14.3 of the UCMPMD 2024: This clause specifies the original timeline for the submission of a self-declaration of compliance by the CEO of a medical device company. This declaration, along with the disclosure of marketing expenditure as per clause 14.1, is required to be submitted within two months after the end of each financial year. The notification of May 28, 2025, directly extends this specific deadline for the financial year 2024-25 to July 31, 2025.

This extension provides companies with additional time to comply with the reporting requirements outlined in the UCMPMD 2024.
